NYJPW Chinese Opera Demonstration & Performance for International Week Event
GD Privat Dining Room, April 3, Tuesday, 2-3 PM, Teachers College, Columbia University

NYJPW artists have invited to demonstrate and perform Chinese Opera at Teachers College, Columbia University, April 3, 2001, to learn about the following:

  • Chinese opera make-up
  • Meaning of color and pattern
  • The aesthetics of Chinese opera: settings, music, lyrics, singing, gestures, dance, etc.
  • Short performance: Monkey King Plays with a Nymph


  • The highlight is as follows:

    "Peking opera has existed for over 200 years. It is widely regarded as the highest expression of the Chinese culture and has been favored by people from all walks of the society. There are thousands of pieces covering the entire history and literature of China, even including revised stories from the west. As a comprehensive performing art, it combines opera, ballet, acrobatic show and historical play." -

    Though this session, NYJPW has affectly promoted the beauty of the traditional Chinese art form to all participated and appreciative audience at Columbia University.
