A Tribute to JOHN WANG and His Always Creative Talents in His Photography
Opening Remark by Sal Morello, Head of Art Director, Robert Becker, Inc.

John Wang has used his lens to capture the essence and the beauty of nature and reality for many productive years. I would like to speak to all of you about his wonderful character and his creativity through the lens of our relationship that goes back over 30 years.

John came for an interview at the advertising agency where I was Art Director, this was in the early 1970's. The first thing that impressed me was his photography portfolio. It showed his talent and his creativity. I was immediately impressed by his polite and unassuming manner. This was the beginning of a long relationship, not only a business relationship but also a warm friendship.

I quickly learned that John was most willing to accommodate the budgets I had from my client and that he would go to great lengths to satisfy the requirements of the assignments. Where other photographers would shoot 100 exposures to cover a job, John shot 500 exposures, shooting from every conceivalbe angle and with enormous creative input. Not only did he do the photography but he also scouted locations, built his own sets, cast models and acquired props. John was a staff of 10 men rolled up into one man and he had the dedication and the energy and the discipline to do it all and to do it all very well. I remember one time when we were on location for a complicated job. He had chosen a great site and there were models, props, lights and other equipment. I asked him, "John, where is your staff?" And he answered, "I am the staff." And he was! John Wang came through for me so many times. Not only was I happy with his work but so were the agency's clients. He helped win many awards for our agency and helped us to hold on to our business clients. Whenever I recommended John to another art director they were never disappointed in his work.

John Wang is an honorable moral man of great integrity and generousity of spirit. He is kind and easy to work with. His creative talent and dedication to photography are built on his strength of character. I know him to be a warm, loving family man. And I am happy to praise and pay tribute to a fine artist and an outstanding man.
